In an increasingly digital world, social media platforms give people convenient and entertaining ways to communicate, share and consume information. For many, they have become the primary sources of connection to the outside world for personal and business reasons. In early 2021, under the direction of Abt Associates, the Pew Research Center conducted a survey containing questions focused on social media usage. A total of 1,502 adults were interviewed and selected to accurately represent the United States adult population. Questions were asked about 11 different social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, Pinterest, Snapchat, YouTube, TikTok, WhatsApp, NextDoor and Reddit). To gain a deeper understanding of the social media landscape and user-base, I created a visualization with diagrams displaying a breakdown of the number of platforms per social media user, as well as platform specific user data. WhatsApp, NextDoor and Reddit are excluded from platform-specific sections, as their main purposes of use are inconsistent with the other platforms.
